Kasal.com's "The Wedding Proposal Story" Contest
There were several entries that needed to be scored. Some proposals were something I've heard of already. Others spoke of the lengths they've done to execute their plans to propose. There was one guy who even gave his girlfriend 3 engagement rings! Sweet =)
I salute the men who really made an effort to make the day of their proposal very special. If I were in the shoes of these ladies, I would fall in love all over again. Read their stories for yourself (click the name of the couple to be directed to their love story).

Aside from having a dream wedding, girls look forward to the day the man they love would propose to them. When I was a little girl, there was a time when I wondered.. Do girls get to keep the ring if the relationship doesn't go to the next level? Does a girl who is proposed to have the heart to say "No" if she doesn't feel it's the right time? Does it always have to be a diamond ring? Some men uses a family heirloom as an engagement ring. What if it doesn't fit my personality? Hahaha! Too many questions for a 10 year old.
This contest made me think back if I ever did dreamed of being proposed to and how. I actually can't remember. Maybe I'll write about it when I remember. It was my dream wedding that got stuck in my head up to now. And it stayed as a dream...
But so far... nothing still beats my favorite proposal ever. And this one always makes me cry.
Anyway, I hope my personal favorite for this contest wins.
Always stay safe and be happy.
Many blessings!

Research + Patience = Dream Wedding
Planning your dream wedding need not be expensive. We are often asked if 200k is enough for a decent wedding. And the answer is “Yes”! What’s the catch? First of all, every couple has their own definition of “decent”. Also, one’s definition of “simple but elegant” comes into play. Surely you cannot squeeze a Vera Wang gown into that budget, but you can still have options of having a similar gown made by your “suking” mananahi (seamstress). Everything boils down to priorities. Priorities differ from one couple to another. Find out what is the most important to the least important item for your wedding. But in planning your wedding, the first thing you have to consider is the number of people you intend to invite because this will definitely have an impact on your wedding budget.
Why? Just think about it. The more guests you have, the more you'll have to spend for:
1) invitations - that is if you are to follow proper wedding etiquette. But here in the Philippines it is common practice that one invitation is for one family. However, separate invitations should be sent if any of the children or siblings is/are already married.
2) venue - you'll need a bigger venue if you're inviting more than just your close friends and relatives. Have you talked with your parents? You might be surprised with how many of their amigas and amigos they have invited to come to your wedding.
3) wedding attire of your entourage - if you plan to pay for their attire, whether it is just going to be for the entire attire, fabric or labor alone.
4) hair and make up of your bridal party - if you also plan to pay for their hair and make up. How about your close relatives who are staying the night with your family at the hotel?
5) accommodations – you might be asked to shoulder the accommodations of some entourage or relatives who are attending your wedding.
6) entourage flowers - the bigger the bridal party the more bouquets you have to provide. Please remember that you do not need boutonnieres for the barong.
7) food - more guests means more food. Also consider the serving style, whether it’s going to be buffet, lauriat, family-style or sit-down.
8) souvenirs - Filipino guests are fond of collecting wedding souvenirs (they are so fond of it that they will ask for one or two more souvenirs). A common practice once again is one per family, but that would depend on the type of souvenirs you want to giveaway on your wedding day. Best to have a photo booth. At least only those who wants to have their photos taken will line up for it. You do not have to worry if everyone went home with a souvenir since they will have to have their photos taken to bring home one.
In general, less is more... Less guests, more savings. It is best to draw up your guest list before you book your suppliers. From there you can size up your budget if you can accommodate everyone on your list. If not, better to cut it down before you announce your wedding date and send out invitations. Be open to options. But as the saying goes, “you get what you pay for”. Remember that quality products and services don’t come cheap. And getting “cheap” suppliers doesn't directly mean savings for you. Check out each supplier if they are really cut out for you.
Research + Patience = Dream Wedding. There are so many ways to find that illusive supplier who can provide the service that you need at the price that you can afford. Online resources such as Mybridalfair.com, Kasal.com, ClicktheCity.com and 88DB.com can provide you necessary articles and contact information of wedding suppliers. You can browse through the beautiful pages of Metro Weddings Magazine and fall in love with their creative and practical suggestions to make your dream wedding a reality. You can also find valuable information when you join online forums such as myKASAL.COMmunity to get reliable recommendations from soon-to-wed couples and brides. Topics such as “best caterer” and “affordable wedding package” are actively being discussed.
If after all of that and your budget is still not enough, you can try the next best thing to replace your priority suppliers or wedding details. Like instead of using imported roses, you can use local roses. Instead of getting the most expensive package of your favorite photo-video team, why not get a lower package and still enjoy the service of your favorite supplier? If everything fails, you can always ask family and friends to make this a bonding "Do-It-Yourself" Project. What's important is that you get to enjoy your engagement, wedding preparations, celebrate your union with the people dear to you and save as much as you can for the coming months and years to come. Because at the end of it all, your priority is to marry the one you love. All it really takes to get married is a groom, a bride, someone to officiate the wedding and two witnesses... and of course the wedding ring. All the rest is just icing on the cake.

Things to consider before you join an Expo or Exhibit
1) Set your goals.
What are your expectations? Do you expect to sell certain items at the expo, or expect to make possible tie ups with other vendors? Are you introducing a new product or service to the public?
It is ok to have more than one goal, as long as you are clear about what your participation in the Bridal Fair is going to achieve.
2) Do your Research.
You need to select the Bridal Fairs or Exhibits that will give your business the best ROI in terms of your goals. It is best to choose a show that targets the audience that you want to reach, and best suits your goals. Find out what the particular expo objectives are, and evaluate the audience.
Find out more about Before I Do Bridal Fair Series at http://mybridalfair.com
3) Allot a budget and book your booth early.Find out everything you can about your preferred booth space and the amenities that goes with it. Always ask for a layout to select the best location for you. Ask if they zone exhibitors by category, who will occupy the booth beside the one you want, is it a high traffic or low traffic area, etc.
Visit the Who Should Join? page to find out what Before I Do Bridal Fair Series can offer. Also, we do not have zoning for our bridal fair because we do not want to limit you to an area that you think will not benefit you. If you really want to position yourself at the forefront of the exhibit or prime area, be ready to book early! Call us now and ask for our updated layout.
By the way, we give bigger discounts to Exhibitors who:
* creates a group of 3 wedding suppliers or more and
* pays for both exhibits in advance
4) Think of your audience when you plan your participation.
Identify who is your target market for your bridal fair display? Brides? Grooms? Parents? Retail customers? Wholesale buyers? Other businesses in your industry?
Different audiences "shop" bridal fair differently, and have different needs. So be prepared!
5) Spread the word in advance.
Spread the word that you're joining a particular expo or bridal fair. Invite clients, customers, suppliers, and other contacts to attend the fair. Don’t forget to inform them about your location. Be sure to advertise your participation in the coming expo or bridal show on your Web site.
We can provide you with a special tile ad highlighting your participation at the bridal fair for FREE or copy-and-past the code to your website to inform visitors that you're joining our bridal fair.

Destinations Weddings Made Easy
Having a destination wedding is a great way to start your life together as a couple filled with wonderful memories. Your destination wedding will not just be a one day event with your family and friends but instead a vacation that everyone will enjoy. If planned well, you can create a vacation that is both affordable and unforgettable for you and your guests. Working with reputable vendors and resorts will also help you avoid potential problems along the way. If you are not a hands on bride, or don't have the time to invest in research and planning, we recommend hiring a wedding planner such as VRC Creative Events.
Destination weddings would entail a lot of planning. You and your guests would need to travel far away from home. This would also mean, that your guests have to be informed earlier, much earlier than usual for them to block the dates from their calendars that would cover travel, recreation and of course, your wedding day. It is ideal that you spend more time researching for a destination wedding than you would with a traditional hometown wedding. Once you have decided that you want to have a destination wedding, where do you start? Here are some tips for planning a successful destination wedding:
Let’s get started - When planning for a destination wedding or an outdoor wedding, choose a location based on your wedding style and a nonnegotiable guest list (if you say 30 guests, it will never go beyond 30). Unlike a hometown wedding, you can't assume everyone will be able to spend the money to attend. You'll need to get a rough estimate on how many people can come before you choose a venue. Just like traditional weddings, the more you invite, the more expensive it gets.
Always ask questions - Achieving your dream wedding means having all the vital and relevant information you need to make the perfect choices. Do some research as well, so don’t be shy. Just ask.
Work with those in the know - Work with a wedding planner who specializes in destination weddings and/or is based in the area where you'll be married. Wedding planners can also serve as your scouts to look for reputable wedding suppliers in the area.
BYOP (Bring Your Own Pros) - Don't hesitate to bring in talent you trust from Manila for critical aspects such as your photo and video, hair and makeup, and sometimes your trusted wedding coordinators. What to expect when you BYOP? Expect to be charged for out of town rate. Rates differ depending on your location. If your wedding entails travelling via air or sea, you have to shoulder their fare (back & forth), at times accommodations for 3days and 2nights and meals.
Your guests - If you've chosen a far-flung locale, make sure your guests have the ways and means to get to your venue/s (you don’t want anyone getting lost or stranded on their way to your wedding). If they plan to stay the night, it would be a nice touch to place a gift basket in their room that is full of essentials for the trip (suntan lotion, bug spray, slippers, etc.) and items that will remind them of the place (native food or crafts made in the area).
Bulky gifts – If you are having a destination wedding, don’t expect your guests to bring in gifts anymore. Just getting to your wedding costs a lot already, that is already a gift worth cherishing. If you have guests who are well-off and insist on giving you a gift, suggest that they bring small gifts that will not be a burden for them to bring. Guests may opt to give you gift checks. Wilcon Gift Checks is a great gift to receive. It is simple, convenient and stress-free way of gift giving! Newlyweds who receive Wilcon Gift Checks can choose from the finest selections of home-building materials, from construction-supply to tiles, sanitary wares, Do-It-Yourself items, kitchenwares, appliances, furniture, home accessories.
Spice It Up! – Explore your wedding destination with your partner and share this experience with your guests as well. Plan out activities that you and your guests can enjoy. Do some research on the different activities which you can do during your stay.
Reality check – Expect that some of your friends or relatives will not be able to attend. So don’t be upset. You have to consider that their fees for travel, hotel, and car rental can really be expensive, especially for a family. Your wedding may seem to be a mini-vacation for you but it may not be the one they can afford. To help them plan and save up for this trip, send out Save the Date cards. This would get the ball of excitement rolling in their calendar!
Dress for no stress - Whether your dream location is specifically a beach or simply outdoors, always consider the climate when choosing your gown. Choose a dress made of light fabric and consider not having a train. A train will just drag in grass and dirt. Also you may want to stay away from shoes with spike heels, which will only sink into the ground. For beach weddings, one may opt to have foot jewellery instead, ornaments that adorn ladies’ feet.
Mybridalfair.com and VRC Creative Events' latest project, Dream Weddings and Destinations - Before I Do 4th Edition, successfully concluded two festive days last November 23, at the Megatrade Hall 3, SM Megamall which featured Manila's best wedding vendors and professionals, showcasing the best of their services and products to hundreds of visitors.
